The history of toothbrush

Tools for cleaning teeth dating from 3500-3000 BC when the Babylonians and the Egyptians did their peculiar toothbrushes as rubbing one edge of a twig. Found in ancient Egyptian tombs containing toothpicks placed right next to their "owners". Around 1600 BC Chinese invented "is chewing sticks" made of aromatic wood twigs to freshen their breath.

It is believed that the Chinese invented the first toothbrush from natural fibers. It was made of bristles of pigs. The bristles were attached to bamboo or bone handle. Already brought from China into Europe, its design was adapted. The bristles of pigs was replaced with horsehair, which many Europeans prefer to pig bristles.

The first brush with modern design was made by William Addis in England around 1780 - the handle was cut from the bones of cattle, but the part about brushing still used pig bristles.

Natural hair were the only source of material for the brushes till the moment when DuPont invented nylon. With his invention began development of the modern toothbrush in 1938, untill 50's brushes with soft nylon hair since then, people prefer them. The first electric toothbrush was made in 1939

Today, most regular and electric toothbrushes are made in many shapes and sizes and are usually made of plastic handles and nylon hair. Most contemporary models include handles that can be made angular, curved, with control and soft rubber grip areas to facilitate use of the brush itself. Hairs of toothbrushes are usually synthetic and range from very soft to relatively soft, although those found with hard hair. The head of the brush itself may also be in many sizes - from very small children to large adults to form and may be rectangular, elongated, oval or almost round.

However, fundamentals have not changed from the times of the Egyptians and Babylonians - gripping handle and part to clean teeth. During the centuries of its long history, toothbrush was "evolved" to scientific instrument designed using modern design, safe and hygienic materials to confer a benefit to everyone.
